Change of Owner
Instructions to RELINQUISH ownership of a dog
Note: There is no fee to be paid by the person who is relinquishing ownership.
You must be the currently registered owner and have the following in your possession:
- Microchip number. These 15 digits are printed on the Certificate
- Certificate Login PIN. This is a 5 digit number at the bottom of the Certificate
- New owner details: name and address of new owner (you are required to have seen proof)
Log in using the microchip number and the PIN from the bottom of the certificate:
After you have logged in:
- Select "Change Owner"
- Enter the details of the new owner
- Confirm that you have read the instructions and wish to relinquish ownership of the dog to the new owner
Instructions to CLAIM ownership of a dog
Note: There is a fee to be paid by the person who is claiming ownership. Have your credit/debit card ready.
You must be the person acquiring ownership of the dog, and have the following in your possession:
- Microchip number. These 15 digits are printed on the Certificate
- Certificate Verification PIN. This is a 4 digit number at the top of the Certificate
- Payment card. Major credit and debit cards are accepted

After you have logged in:
If the previous owner has already relinquished ownership, you will be asked to enter your details and pay for the registration process.
We will verify that your details tally with the information provided by the previous owner, and issue a new certificate.
If the previous owner has not yet relinquished ownership, you will be shown the current registration details and
you will be given the opportunity to inform Fido that you are waiting for the ownership to be relinquished in your favour.
